Last night I had a little Rant

Last night I had a little rant to some girlfriends, maybe fuelled by a glass of wine… Here it is for your reading pleasure.

Wellness has become synonymous with comfort, day spas, fuzzy blankets and warm teas. But… that is not wellness.

Wellness, I believe, is Resilience.

Wellness is having a nervous system that can move into higher engagement (stress) and down regulate when the activation is no longer needed.

Wellness understanding the signs and signals of your body, to know when to push harder and know when rest is needed.

Wellness is not about always being “balanced and regulated”. Our circadian and infradian rhythms force fluctuations that are needed for us to function. Cortisol to get us moving in the morning, and melatonin to draw us into rest in the evenings.

If we only ever give ourselves slowness and rest, become sluggish and our nervous system loses its ability to activate when needed.

If we only ever push, push, push then our minds never shut off. We get restless, we burn out, and our nervous system loses its ability to down-regulate and restore.

Wellness is living in the dynamic space and interplay between the two.

To engage with the world, retreat, and engage again.

To be challenged, recover, and be challenged again.

To have the strength to meet stress, the skill to let it go, and the resilience to do it over and over again.

Resilience is wellness. Rant Over.

Wild Vedas is starting the Wellness as Resilience Revolution. Be a part of it. Come play in the mountains and get to the root source of your resilience.
